Part of King County's efforts to clean the Maury Island reserve property from contamination associated with the Tacoma Smelter Plume, the design included new native plants to lock in contaminated soil and keep park users away from the area.

Project included mitigation plantings (over 8700 natives), around 1 mile of 8'H deer fence, the installation of over 3.5 acres of geotextile to act as a cap over contaminated soils and oversaw maintenance efforts to prevent noxious weeds.
